Sayings of Sri Ramakrishna
Vairagya is of many kinds.
One kind of it springs from acute pain due to worldly misery.
But the better kind arises from the consciousness that all worldly blessings though within one's reach, are transitory and are not worth enjoying.
Thus, having all, one has not anything.
Meaning of Bhakti
The Sanskrit term 'Bhakti' etymologically has three meanings and all of them convey the path and the goal of Bhakti beautifully:
-'Bhajanam Bhakti' [to enjoy the Name and the glory of God is Bhakti],
-Bhago Bhakti [to divide oneself from the world and to give oneself to God is Bhakti],
-Bhanjanam Bhakti [to destroy hatred and attachments towards all things, overcome delusion and ignorance is Bhakti].
Sri Ramakrishna says on Bhakti Yoga:
"It is to keep the mind on God by chanting His name and glories.... Bhakti, love of God, is the essence of all spiritual discipline. Through love one acquires renunciation and discrimination naturally."
-Vedanta Kesari
"One needs spiritual practice in order to know God and recognise Divine Incarnations. Big fish live in the large lake, but to see them one must throw spiced bait in the water. There is butter in milk, but one must churn the milk to get it. There is oil in the mustard seed, but one must press the seed to extract the oil."
-The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna
